Serving in the legislature as the State Representative for House District 41 has been an honor. With your help we accomplished so much for our communities here in Arapahoe County and across Colorado.

With your support, I sponsored nearly 70 bills passed into law to help job seekers, raise local minimum wages, protect seniors and homeowners, improve our transportation system, reform our criminal justice system, and even amend the State Constitution to prohibit slavery in all circumstances.

In my conversations with many of you, I’ve been asked, “What next?” Since the beginning of our journey I’ve always ended all my messages with: “Together let’s move Colorado Forward.” I believe we did move Colorado forward, but the work isn’t over.

We didn’t come this far to only come this far. I’m happy to announce that I am seeking to serve as our next Arapahoe County Commissioner for District 4.

I believe we can continue to do more locally where our lives are lived. Having represented House District 41, which overlaps with most of Commission District 4, I understand our community, its challenges, and its needs.

We have growing families and increasing senior populations that need economic security through job growth and investment. We rely on well maintained transportation infrastructure to get us to work and school safely. We value our environment and need responsible growth, efficient business development projects, and effective protections from waste and damage. And we’ve been hit harder than most by COVID-19, myself included. We need a partner with Tri-County health and the State to ensure that we all recover from this pandemic and its impacts.

After serving in the Lt. Governor’s Office and the Colorado House of Representative, I understand how to deliver on these needs. I understand department budgets and I’ve worked with others to pass amendments to the State’s nearly $30 Billion annual budget year after year. And I’ve served in House Leadership as the Majority Deputy Whip with the main role of securing and managing floor votes. Having passed so many bills, I know how to work across the aisle without sacrificing progressive values and priorities.

Arapahoe County is not only Colorado’s First County, but it’s also Colorado’s most diverse county. With growing African American, LatinX, Asian American, and Immigrant communities in our district, it’s important that our County Commission has a voice that understands the challenges these communities face, and bridges these divides. I was one of the founding members and a past Chair of the Black Democratic Legislative Caucus. I helped lead one of Colorado’s largest African American contingents of legislators and worked closely with the LatinX Caucus. If elected, I would be a voice of experience and one that Arapahoe County has never had before.

Regardless of the challenges we face ahead, I am confident that together we can make things better. I know this because we have done it together before. Although the election is just over a year and a half away in November 2022, there is a great deal of work to do. I’m asking that you stand with me and again let’s keep moving forward together.

For the past year, I’ve been speaking with so many supporters and saying thank you for standing with me these past incredible eight years.
