With a heavy heart, I wanted to share with you that I have decided to withdraw my candidacy and suspend my campaign for Arapahoe County Commissioner District 4.
As you might know, I have been receiving treatment for heart failure for the last two years. Unfortunately this week I received news that my progress has relapsed. It has been recommended that I focus on steps to improve my recovery. This decision does not come lightly. While I believe that I have the experience and resolve to serve as County Commissioner, I also believe that the stress and rigor of a full primary and general election campaign would prove to be more than I can continue operating at this time.
After much thought and discussions with my family, I believe that my withdrawal is the best course of action for myself and the party in the nomination process. Therefore I will not be seeking the county party’s nomination at the Arapahoe County Democratic Caucus/Assembly.
It has been an honor serving the people of Arapahoe County as the former State Representative for House District 41, connecting with voters, and learning even more about the County in seeking this new role. I hope to continue to be of service to the communities of this district in a role that best suites my experience after I recover.
I appreciate all of your support during this campaign and over the past 10 years. I couldn’t have done any of the great work that I am so proud of without you. Together we passed legislation and progressive policies that moved Colorado forward. While this is the end of one journey, I know that we will still do more to move Colorado forward together.
